Every fall, gamers from around the world unite for 24 hours to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
Individual gamers choose the specific hospital their donations will go to and 100 percent of those donations go directly to that hospital.
What Is Extra Life?
A few gamers began Extra Life in 2008 to honor Victoria Enmon, a young girl that died of cancer. It made a big impact on them and they decided to help other children with their fights.
Extra Life partnered with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in 2010 allowing their mission to make an even bigger impact on the lives of children.
Since 2008 Extra Life has raised over $40 million for children.
In 2017, Extra Life united 50,000 gamers worldwide and together we raised over $11 million.
The official Extra Life fundraising event date is November 2nd, 2019.
All ages can participate, so you can make it a family event.
Gaming does not have to occur for 24 hours straight, just that a total of 24 hours occurs.
What About Our Local Hospital?
We have chosen St. Francis Children’s Hospital to send donations to as it is our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
The money donated goes directly to the hospital and is categorized as ‘unrestricted funds’ so the hospital can determine where the money needs to be spent.
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals never turn away children-even when they can’t afford care.
St. Francis Children’s Hospital opened in 2008 and serves nearly 70,000 children every year.
St. Francis Children’s Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility that has 162 beds, comprised of pediatric inpatient, ICS and NICU wards.
Our local hospital treats many different illnesses and conditions, including: hematology, oncology, diabetes, asthma, infusions, spina bifida, cardiology, and emergency care.
Extra Life 2018 Update
We survived another year of Extra Life. I wasn’t able to make it the full 24 hours without a nap. About 4 AM I started feeling rather unwell and laid down for a couple of hours.
We raised $800 for our team and Cav raised $800 including his matching amounts.
Together, the two GTN teams, OG GTN and GTN Rogues, raised $1800. We are ALL very happy and looking forward to next year!
Each year we discover different hiccups in the process and come up with new ideas, so there’s no telling what we will come up with for next year.
We are so thankful to everyone that took the time to donate to the cause and help St. Francis Children’s hospital provide care for sick and injured children.
We doused Hannah in ice water and she donned her Unicorn onesie.
Phil allowed us to cover his beard in pink glitter.
I played LEGO Jurassic Park blindfolded.
Hannah tried to eat a pepper and almost died (not really).
Phil tickled Lynn, much to Lynn’s chagrin.
And many hours of video games were played.
Until next year, THANK YOU ALL!
